Longer lead times and cost inflation has been prevalent in the construction industry since the start of 2021. Morgan Sindall’s chief executive John Morgan told Construction News it had affected his company, but said the situation was improving. “It’s there, but it’s manageable,” Morgan said, adding “I believe the shortages aren’t as much as they were a few weeks ago.” Heavy demand and supply constraints have seen overall material prices rise 10-15 per cent over the past year, according to the CLC’s latest materials availability update. “We’ve had it worse in the past,” Morgan said, adding that the inflation is being factored into bids, with the contractor making sure its suppliers are also accounting for it in their prices.
