GREENE CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Indiana public schools received a combined total of nearly $1.8 billion from the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan.
Vigo County received $30 million, Vincennes received $6 million and Eastern Greene came out with just over $1 million in federal funding.
Trent Provo, Eastern Greene Schools superintendent, said they’ve began discussing several spending options.
“I think this next round is going to focus on cleaning and making sure we’re doing a good job with cleaning,” he said. “Some social emotional training for staff students and parents. A lot of the other planning is still to come.”
Vigo County School Corporation projects move forward
Some big projects had to be put on pause because of the pandemic, but now they are getting a refresh.

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) Across the Wabash Valley, many things were put on hold when the pandemic hit. Including some big projects within the Vigo County School Corporation, but those projects are getting a fresh start. They re all apart of the Vigo County School corporation s strategic plan.
It s a plan Superintendent Rob Haworth announced and started 2 years ago, but because of the pandemic, these plans were put on pause.
A Vigo County youth-led group called "EARTHlings" hopes to bring awareness about the urgency of climate change and also to persuade the school district to take the lead in providing
50 people attended in-person the first of three community meetings, which took place at the West Vigo Elementary Conference Center. Another 60 attended virtually.

A new advocacy group has been formed to support improved teacher and staff compensation and also to monitor other current issues in the Vigo County School Corp.

Voices for Vigo Schools is a private Facebook group that already had 875 members as of Thursday afternoon. Melissa Ketner and Hailee Lauritzen are VCSC parents who are moderating the group, which will share information and organize other events around current issues in the school district.
Ketner also organized a march that took place downtown Monday. More than 100 people participated in the march, including educators, parents, school staff and others.
