Best ideas for Oman’s development honoured at Research Awards By: Times News Service Muscat: A new way for people with diabetes to cure themselves of their condition, new energy-saving ways to cool homes in hot countries like Oman, and better methods to generate renewable energy are among the 12 projects to have been awarded at this year’s National Research Awards. The awards honour research done by those who come up with ideas across a number of fields, including healthcare, transportation, energy, the environment, computing, and many others, which benefit the lives of society. Under the PhD category, Constantinos Chryssou from Muscat University won in the Education and Human Resources field for his project titled ‘University–industry interactions in the Sultanate of Oman: Challenges and opportunities’.

Sayyid Theyazin to preside over research award event By: Times News Service Muscat: Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Hiddabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation, said that the preparations for the holding of the seventh cycle of the Annual Research Forum have been completed and the winners of the National Research Award will be announced on January 18, 2021.   The forum will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, in the presence of Prof. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, and a number of ministers, researchers, academics and National Research Award winners.

Project to track endagered animals with UAVs wins at 4th Upgrade By: Times News Service (From left) Dr Saif Al Hiddabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation and Talal Saeed Al Mamari, CEO of Omantel Muscat: A project on ‘Tracking Endangered Animals in the Wild using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles’, prepared by Younis Al Jadeedi, Mohammed Al Sarhani and Muhannad Al Rumaidhi from Sultan Qaboos University is among the three winners of this year’s Upgrade. The primary objective of the project is to develop a system to recognise the endangered animals in the reserves. The system utilises unmanned aerial vehicles and artificial intelligence.
