YOUNGSTOWN Within the six-county Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, 107 men, women and children from 33 parishes are preparing to become members of the Catholic Church at Easter.
Diocese officials said 31 people will receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil on April 4; and 76 people already baptized in other Christian traditions will make a profession of faith and receive the sacraments of confirmation and Eucharist.
The Rev. Michael Balash said that for many months, the people have been participating in parishes throughout the diocese in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process through which they become familiar with the teachings of the Catholic Church and way of life. They also learn about and participate in the apostolic mission of the church.

WHITE MASS: The Diocese of Youngstown will host the 25th annual White Mass for all health care professionals 10:30 a.m. Feb. 14 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St.
Bishop David Bonnar will be the principle celebrant for the Mass, which celebrates all health professionals, including mental health workers, and recognizes the ministry of all those in the healing professions.

Canton s Mercy Medical Center joins Cleveland Clinic system as deal is finalized

Mercy Medical Center in Canton is now a full member of the Cleveland Clinic health system.
Dr. Timothy Crone has been named president of the hospital, which will now be formally known as Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, according to a news release.
The Clinic and Sisters of Charity Health System announced on Monday, Feb. 1, they had finalized the deal, which began when the two signed a letter of intent in fall 2019.
Though the pandemic slowed the due diligence process, the organizations announced in December that they expected to reach an agreement at the start of February.
CANTON Mercy Medical Center has a new name and a new president.
The 476-bed Catholic hospital, now called Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, officially became the 19th hospital in the Cleveland Clinic System on Monday.
Mercy will maintain its Catholic identity through sponsorship by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
Patients will notice few immediate changes. All services, including the hospital s COVID-19 response, will go forward uninterrupted.
Patients will see their same physicians and providers at their same locations, Mercy s employees will continue providing care, all operations and appointments will proceed as scheduled and all current insurance plans will be accepted, the system said.
