That’s about how many beetle species there are in the world, and the hardy insects are very good at finding and consuming food. This is a key reason much of the food produced for human consumption is impacted by toxic pesticides. Now researchers believe they are on the verge of a breakthrough that could ward off beetles without a negative hit to human health, the environment or biodiversity.
