Allarco Entertainment is this week seeking an injunction to bar the sale of any media players that can be modified to stream “pirated” content. If they get their injunction, what is to prevent them from then going after every computer in the world, since those too can all stream such allegedly “illegal content” with the installation of a software app.
This smacks of Big Brother where large institutions get to control what we get to view. (I don’t stream any pirated content since I have no use for it). Decades ago the music industry succeeded in getting tariffs on blank recordable media, which cost me needlessly (I only ever used the media to back up my many computer systems at work and home.)
