Biden: US to Halve Emissions By 2030

Addressing 40 world leaders at the start of a two-day summit, President Joe Biden has committed to a halving of US global warming emissions by 2030.
In the meeting on Thursday, marking the American return to the Paris Agreement on climate change, Biden said, “This is a moral imperative, an economic imperative. A moment of peril, but also a moment of extraordinary possibilities.”
Biden also promised to double the US assistance to developing countries address climate change, with about $5.7 billion by 2024.
British lawmakers on Thursday approved a parliamentary motion declaring that China’s policies against Xinjiang’s Uighur minority amounted to genocide and crimes against humanity.
The motion is nonbinding and does not compel the British government to act.
However, it is another move signaling the growing outcry among British officials over alleged human rights abuses in China.
The motion was moved by British lawmaker Nus Ghani, one of five members of parliament sanctioned by China for criticizing its treatment of Uighurs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday that India and the US are launching an agenda 2030 partnership on green collaborations as he pitched for concrete action at a high speed and on a large scale globally to combat climate change. Addressing a virtual summit on climate change convened by US President Joe Biden, Modi said a guiding philosophy of back to basics must be an important pillar of the economic strategy for the post-COVID era and asserted that India has taken many bold steps on clean energy, energy efficiency and bio-diversity, despite its development challenges. The summit is being attended by some 40 world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Japanese counterpart Yoshihide Suga.

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday received his first dose of AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine at an Ottawa pharmacy, telling reporters “I’m very excited” as the needle entered his arm.
Afterwards he posed for television cameras and photographers with his thumbs up and then watched as his wife Sophie received her first shot. Sophie came down with a mild case of the coronavirus at the start of the pandemic last year.
