UDUPI: The district level review committee (DLRC) for banking in Udupi on Thursday put managers of banks on notice for not processing and settling crop insurance claims on time. The delay stems from mismatch in the area of crop insured. Farmers who had insured their pepper and areca nut crop in 2018-19 were eligible for insurance payouts in 2019-20 and 355 farmers in 525 distinct cases are yet to receive the same due to the above issue. Flagging this issue at the meeting that Dr Naveen Bhat Y, chief executive officer, Udupi zilla panchayat chaired, Bhuvaneshwari deputy director, department of horticulture said farmers have every right to escalate any delay in this regard with deputy commissioner, who heads the district level committee that oversees insurance payouts. “This will needlessly put the bank managers in trouble and the same issues must be avoided,” she said.
