CSDE: Notice To Families Of Magnet Placement For 2021-2022

Reply May 10, 2021 Hartford) - The Connecticut State Department of Education s (CSDE) Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) today notified families who applied to a school choice program in the Greater Hartford Region of their students placements for the 2021-22 school year. More than 4,700 Connecticut students received a placement offer at one of the Interdistrict Magnet Schools or Open Choice Schools in the Greater Hartford Region. (Shutterstock) CONNECTICUT Gov. Ned Lamont has provided some more insight into how the state plans to roll out the coronavirus vaccine to 12-15 year olds. Federal regulators gave the go-ahead on Monday for the Pfizer vaccine to be used on the youngest age tier so far during the rollout. Connecticut Chief Operating Officer Josh Geballe said he expected the state would receive guidance from the federal government on administration of the vaccine to the youths as early as Wednesday night, and if that s the case, our providers will be ready the following day.

Farmington Schools Music Department Chair Gets Major Award

(Tim Jensen/Patch) FARMINGTON, CT Leslie Imse, Music Department chair for the Farmington public school system, has been selected as Connecticut Music Education Association s Outstanding Arts Administrator for the 2020-2021 school year. A virtual ceremony will take place on June 22, during which Imse will be presented with a certificate of recognition by members of the CMEA Executive Board. Under her leadership, the Farmington music department has been recognized with numerous performance and education awards. Most notably the town of Farmington was named one of the Best Communities for Music Education and the CT Arts Administrators Association s Excellence in Arts Education Award for the outstanding K-12 music program, school officials said.

Governor Lamont Announces Connecticut Exceeds Five-Year Goal for Increasing Diversity in the Educator Workforce

Governor Ned Lamont has announced that over the last five years, school districts in Connecticut have hired more than 1,900 educators of color, exceeding the goal set by the State Board of Education to increase the number of educators of color by 10% – approximately 1,000 positions – between 2017 and 2021. The governor said that while this five-year goal has been met, his administration will continue pursuing policies that do more to close the existing gap between educators and students of color so the workforce better reflects the diversity of the students in the classroom. “Numerous studies have shown that students of color achieve better educational outcomes when they have teachers of color in the classroom, and as our student body becomes more diverse we should be doing everything we can to reflect that diversity among the educators who are mentoring and inspiring our next generation of young people,”
