Updated: 7:53 AM CDT May 3, 2021 KMBC 9 News Staff The Kansas State Highway Patrol reminded drivers over the weekend that speeding should only be reserved for the drivers at Kansas Speedway. On Sunday, Kansas State Highway Patrol Trooper Tiffany Bush tweeted a picture of somebody “attempting #NASCAR speeds.”In the photo, the radar in the patrol car showed somebody was caught traveling 124 miles an hour.KHP didn’t say where the photo was taken, but 75 mph is the maximum on rural segments of freeway and on the Kansas Turnpike, which means the person was going at least 49 mph over the speed limit. The speed limit is 70 mph on some improved highways.“It may be race weekend, but this isn’t the Kansas Speedway,” Bush said in the tweet. “Let’s keep these speeds on the track.”On its website, the KHP says your chance of death or serious injury in a crash doubles for every 10 mph over 50 mph your vehicle travels.Related vide
