Kolkata, Dec 18 : Crisis deepened in West Bengal s ruling Trinamool Congress as the party s Minority Cell leader Kabirul Islam resigned on Friday, making it the fourth big exit in last 24 hours ahead of the crucial state assembly polls that is barely four months away.
According to sources, many other resignations are also pouring in at lower tiers of the party, mostly in districts, ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah s scheduled visit to West Bengal on December 19.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar on Friday lashed out at the BJP, saying it failed to create its own leaders in the state and thus was trying to win elections by poaching one or two from the ruling party. “They haven’t been able to make a leader on their own, by taking away leaders from the TMC before the elections they think they can win it. People of Bengal do not like such people, no one here likes their divisive politics. Mamata Banerjee will take oath as CM for the third time in 2021,” she told reporters here.

ON THE ground floor of the West Bengal State Government Employees Federation office in Midnapore town, near the ground where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a public meeting Saturday, a group of TMC workers sat on plastic chairs, their eyes glued to the TV. What they saw was a stream of leaders quitting their party.
NEW DELHI: Mamata Banerjee, who is gearing up for a big showdown with a determined BJP in the assembly elections next year, is battling challenges on several fronts.
The Trinamool chief, who has seen the exodus of several key leaders in the run up to the elections, lost another party MLA today. But this is not the only challenge that she faces. The Union home ministry is asking her government some tough questions on the law and order situation in the state.
Also, there are strong runours that some heavyweights who have left the Trinamool will join the BJP in the presence of Amit Shah, who will in Bengal over the weekend.

Fresh jolt to Mamata as TMC s minority cell leader Kabirul Islam resigns as general secretary
Trinamool Congress leader Kabirul Islam has resigned from the post of the general secretary of the party s minority cell, news agency ANI reported. The resignation came soon after Barrackpore MLA Shilbhadra Dutta resigned from the party.Â
Dutta, a two-term MLA, said he has sent the resignation letter to Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee by email, triggering speculations that he may join a long list of party leaders who have either joined the BJP or is willing to ahead of the assembly elections, likely in March-April.Â
