The number of active cases further decreased and became 14,108. The total death toll stood at 9,569 on Saturday. The number of discharged persons is 5,22,331. The recovery rate has increased to 95.66 per cent.
The total cases in West Bengal increased to 5,46,008.

The third phase of the clinical trial of Russian Covid vaccine candidate Sputnik V is likely to begin at the state-run College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital (CMSDH) in the second week of January. The facility in Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas district is the second hospital after Peerless Hospital in Kolkata where the Russian vaccine candidate trial will be conducted.

The BJP Wednesday issued a show cause notice to its state Mahila Morcha president Agnimitra Paul for “anti-party remarks” after she spoke out against the against the induction of TMC MLA Jitendra Tiwari.
The notice was issued by state BJP vice president Pratap Banerjee.
In a press byte, Paul had said she was not in favour of Tiwari joining the party.
On Tuesday, a similar notice was served to state BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu, and two other party leaders, Ganga Prasad Sharma and Santosh Hati. Basu, too, had spoken out against the induction of the former TMC MLA into the BJP.
