Cumberland County Board of Education votes to reopen schools

All Cumberland County Schools moved to a partial reopening known as Plan B on Monday. About 14,200 returned in person to take part in a blended learning format where two cohorts of students switch days they re learning in person. More than 19,500 chose to continue with the virtual format. The students had been taking part in remote learning since March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. At the meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Marvin Connelly Jr. told the board that under the Phase A for grades K-5, visitors would still be limited in schools and masks would be required as well as temperature checks. It doesn t require schools to reduce the number of students in the classroom. Social distancing would be required in schools buildings, but not on buses. Connelly said face coverings would still be provided to students, teachers and staff.
