Forum: Neutrality key to Cambodia’s future

Cambodia should be neutral, pragmatic, and focus on economic development as the country moves toward a fully digital economy, according to experts from different sectors who shared their views on what Cambodia would be like 20 years from now.

Sar Kheng said the idea had merit and was in accord with the safe village-commune policy.
Berger raised the idea while meeting with Sar Kheng on February 3 to discuss decentralisation and deconcentration in Cambodia as a follow-up to the minister’s 2019 tour in Germany to observe German practices in these areas.
Berger told Sar Kheng that Germany was willing to support Cambodia in enacting a commune police-community relations project, according to a statement by the ministry.
He said the project would strengthen the commune police’s ability to perform their duties and improve the communication dynamic between police and citizens as well as encourage civic participation.
EU, Germany, France jointly provide 116 mln USD to develop rural infrastructure in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) The European Union, Germany and France has earlier this week provided a credit agreement worth 95.8 million euros (116 million U.S. dollars) to Cambodia to support the Rural Infrastructure Development for Cambodia (RID4CAM) project, said a joint press statement on Wednesday.
In Cambodia, where 70 percent of the population lives in rural areas, the project aims to finance both the improvement of rural road network in the country s central plain provinces and the construction of complementary infrastructure in drinking water and sanitation, agriculture, health and education sectors, the statement said.

$115M given for rural infrastructure

The EU, Germany and France will invest $115 million to develop rural infrastructure in Cambodia, a joint press release said on December 21.
Representatives of the Cambodian government, German development bank KfW, Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) and the EU inked agreements for the financing of the Rural Infrastructure Development Programme for Cambodia (RID4CAM), it said.
The programme aims to improved the road network and develop rural infrastructure in the central plains region of Cambodia, it said, noting that it has the highest population density and is most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
