Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Friday said the chaos that happened at a community pantry in Barangay Holy Spirit which led to the death of a senior citizen should serve as a reminder for organizers to coordinate their efforts with the local government to ensure that “untoward incidents are minimized” in the future.

“While Quezon City will continue to throw its full support behind community pantry initiatives, this unfortunate incident should serve as an important reminder for organizers to please be reminded of my appeal to coordinate all efforts with the barangay, and if necessary, with the LGU (local government unit),” Belmonte said in a statement.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 23) Actress Angel Locsin and the Quezon City government on Friday vowed to extend help to the family of a man who died after standing in line at a crowded community pantry in the area.
In a statement, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the LGU will shoulder the burial expenses and hand out financial assistance to the family of the 67 year-old man, who police reported went to the pantry organized by Locsin.
Initial investigation showed the victim fainted Friday while waiting for his turn at the pantry. He was rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival, police said.

This was Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte’s message to Maginhawa community pantry organizer Ana Patrica Non who inspired more than 300 others to put up their own pantries in their respective communities all over the country.
In an interview with ANC on Wednesday, Belmonte congratulated Non for what she has achieved with her single act of kindness.
“I think she [Patrica] has achieved so much, so much more than many of us here in serving the public including myself because she has brought something we were not able to bring and that is inspiration to our people and hope for our nation,” Belmonte told Non who was in the other line during the interview.
