There s a buzz in the air: Blackrock Tidy Towns launch programme to encourage pollinator friendly planting Reporter:   ); Blackrock Tidy Towns have launched a programme to encourage pollinator friendly planting in local housing estates.  Residents Associations have been notified and encouraged to select an area that they can develop to attract butterflies, bees, birds and other types of wildlife.    A grant of €250 will be awarded to the four most successful projects submitted. This funding has come from the Department of Rural and Community Affairs as part of the Government’s commitment to support Tidy Towns Groups in their preparation for the 2021 National Tidy Towns Competition.

Report published on preservation measures for Old Graveyard Church

Blackrock Tidy Towns has had a report commissioned on the Church structure in Haggardstown Old Graveyard on the Old Golf Links Road. The report was completed by Dr Jason Bolton who is a conservation architect. Work of this nature would normally be formally presented to the community. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, the report can only be presented online. The report was part funded by County Louth LEADER under the 2014-2020 Rural Development Programme. The purpose of the report is to assess and advise on the condition and vulnerabilities of the ruined medieval church of Haggardstown, which is an archaeological monument, and to provide recommendations for immediate and longer-term repair for stabilisation to safeguard the church, without detracting from its archaeological and architectural significance. The specific aims of the work were to provide:

It was an Awards Ceremony with a difference for Louth Looking Good this year with the results announced virtually for the first time in the competition s history. The campaign is organised by Louth Tidy Towns Together, in partnership with Louth County Council, and is part funded by County Louth LEADER under the Rural Development Programme with its key objective being to acknowledge the unrelenting efforts of Tidy Towns volunteers throughout the county as they strive to present their local communities to the highest possible standard of environmental presentation.
