The Temple and Belton independent school districts are still actively exploring opportunities for its students, staff and surrounding community members to get vaccinated.
On Thursday, Belton ISD spokeswoman Karen Rudolph announced that Joe M. Pirtle Elementary School â 714 S. Pea Ridge Road in Temple â will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott said his district will host its COVID-19 vaccination clinic from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Temple High School, 415 N. 31st St.
These free walk-in clinics, which are available to anyone 12 years and older, were made possible following partnerships with Baylor Scott & White McLane Childrenâs Medical Center.
Project Apple Tree, a charity offered through the Helping Hands Ministry of Belton, is hoping to provide approximately 840 students with school essentials for the upcoming academic year â a goal they hope to achieve with the communityâs assistance.
Belton ISD spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said this initiative, which benefits hundreds of students each year, first began 21 years ago.
âJeannette Kelley, a former school board member and elementary school principal in Belton ISD, started Project Apple Tree ⦠with the goal of ensuring that all students ⦠have a great first day of school,â Rudolph said.
Although Kelley died in April 2020, her vision of providing area children with school supplies, a backpack and new pair of shoes at the beginning of the academic year is still being carried out by a team of volunteers.
The Belton Independent School District moved forward in preparations for a 12th elementary school on Monday when trustees approved the hiring of a construction manager at-risk â a hire, who will begin working with architects in exploring designs.
During a meeting last month, the Belton ISD school board authorized Superintendent Matt Smith to issue a Request for Proposals for the position.
Mike Morgan, Belton ISDâs assistant superintendent of operations, said Smithâs request â which inquired about proposed fees for construction management and pre-construction services â spurred five submissions from general contractors by June 28.
âBased on the evaluation process, the district is recommending Cloud Construction Co. Inc. as the construction manager at-risk for the design and construction of elementary No. 12,â Morgan said in a staff report.
