Opinion: Thank you CaroMont Health for a shot in the arm

Opinion: Thank you CaroMont Health for a shot in the arm Bob Lancaster We wanted to do a shout out for the great team at CaroMont Health in Dallas. When North Carolina opened up the next phase of COVID vaccines availability, I received a call the next day about scheduling the vaccine shot for both my wife and I. We assumed we would have to wait a month or two but was wrong based upon the proactive approach taken by this facility. My wife and I want to personally thank Dr. Barry Scanlan, Rhonda, Connie and the rest of the team for taking care of their patients in such a wonderful way. Because of this call, we were able to communicate this experience to other friends in the CaroMont system and they too got on the schedule very quickly.

1 shot in Kings Mountain

One man was shot and rushed to the hospital from western Gaston County Tuesday afternoon. The shooting happened in Kings Mountain, but the shooting victim was picked up by GEMS on CV Alexander Drive, which is along U.S. 74 near Crowders Mountain Golf Course in Gaston County, around 1:20 p.m. In the same timeframe, Kings Mountain Police responded to a shots-fired call at the intersection of Fairview Street and Third Street, according to a press release. A person driving a gray sedan attempted to transport the wounded man from the shooting scene in Kings Mountain to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, but they pulled over at CV Alexander Drive due to a flat tire, according to Gaston County Police Capt. Billy Downey.

Getting COVID vaccination may save your life

The biggest problems seemed then and now to be at the federal level. The state of North Carolina and its local governments are doing well. How well? I was vaccinated two weeks ago at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. My appointment was scheduled for 8:40 a.m. I arrived at 8:30 and was back in my car by 9 a.m. That is efficient. The lady who helped me register said management had turned the administrative process over to the IT department. That way they knew there would be little “chit-chat” at the registration desks. They were right. A total of 900 people were getting vaccinated four-days per week at the hospital the week I received my first shot. I understand the health department’s results at the Farmer’s Market are equally efficient, though they have access to less vaccine and can vaccinate just one or two days per week. If there are problems, it is not at the local level, at least not in Gaston County.
