WASHINGTON, D.C., Dec. 18, 2020 – President-Elect Joe Biden on Thursday nominated Michael Regan as the next administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Regan most recently led the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The following statement may be attributed to National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) President Howard “AV” Roth, a hog farmer from Wauzeka, Wisconsin. “NPPC congratulates Michael Regan on his nomination. As DEQ secretary in North Carolina, a leading pork-producing state, he always had an open door, valued diverse points of view, and worked to find solutions that ensured science and data were guiding decisions. We hope those same qualities will be carried over to his leadership at EPA. We look forward to working with him on issues of importance to U.S. pork producers, as we continue to produce the highest-quality, most affordable and nutritious protein in the world.”
President-elect Biden has said that tackling climate change, the environment and green energy are top priorities for his administration. And so far, his team appears to be a mix of some familiar faces and some not-so-familiar faces. John Yang spoke with Amy Harder, an energy and climate reporter for Axios, to learn more.

President-elect Biden has said that tackling climate change, the environment and greener energy is a top priority of his administration.
And, today, he filled out the rest of the team that will be taking the lead on these issues.
The NewsHour s Yamiche Alcindor reports that New Mexico Representative Deb Haaland is Mr. Biden s pick to be interior secretary. If confirmed, she would be the first Native American to lead the department or to be in the Cabinet, and she would be overseeing a big piece of nation s natural resources, including tribal lands.
Michael Regan Nominated as EPA Head
Michael Regan, who heads the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, is President-elect Joe Bidenâs nominee as the next Environmental Protection Agency administrator.
A central figure in Bidenâs pledge to combat climate change, foster green energy, and fight environmental racism, Regan would oversee power plants, oil and gas facilities, and other pollutant centers. He would also police the automakers and set standards for fuel-efficiency. If his nomination is confirmed by the Senate, Regan would be the first African-American male to run the EPA.
Enforcement of environmental laws and the protection of those most vulnerable is a key part of the Biden agenda. Growing up in eastern North Carolina, Regan saw toxic pollution, agricultural waste, and environmental destruction being concentrated near communities of color and low-income communities.
