Drunk, Drive, Die campaigns continues through holiday weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS), the Goose Creek Police Department, and law enforcement partners statewide have announced the start of its “Sober or Slammer” campaign running through Jan. 1. The annual “Sober or Slammer” Christmas/New Year’s campaign features a continuation of the “Drink. Drive. Die.” message. The “Drink. Drive. Die.” message can be seen and heard on radio, social/digital media, outdoor advertising, and connected/cable television. The advertising emphasizes the serious consequences of driving while under the influence of alcohol and serves as an educational companion to accompany enforcement efforts. SCHP, the Goose Creek Police Department, and other local law enforcement agencies will also conduct a series of public safety checkpoints throughout the state during the New Year’s holiday period. Crash causes traffic jam at busy intersection in downtown Columbia, police say Dec. 28 A busy intersection in downtown Columbia was blocked following a Monday morning crash, police said. A three-vehicle collision happened at the corner of Gervais and Pickens streets, the Columbia Police Department said at about 10:45 a.m. That s a block away from intersections with Bull and Lady streets, near the Home2 Suites by Hilton. The eastbound lanes were shut down by officers as first responders work to move the vehicles from the road, police said. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety did not report if anyone was hurt, but police said there were no serious injuries. As of 11:15 a.m., EMS had not taken anyone to an area hospital, police said.
