The UK Tourism Alliance has announced the results of a nationwide employment survey. And as the country comes out of lockdown hospitality and tourism bosses across the country, including Brighton, are reporting significant issues in the recruitment and retention of staff. According to the Tourism Alliance research, based on 500 national employers of all sizes, 46 per cent of businesses have fewer staff than they did pre-Covid, with only 18 per cent reporting that they have all the staff they need. This is even though 30 per cent of businesses have reduced trading capacity, services or hours because of the shortage of staff. Many businesses are needing to offer higher wages to gain new employees and keep their current ones.

James Beem of Story City has been hooked on creating his own barbecue sauce for many years. The exuberant response he got from customers while it was a hobby led him to consider making a business of it.
Now, despite obstacles created by COVID-19, Beem has his Knotwater Barbecue Company products on the shelves of several central Iowa retailers.
Beem pulls from different regions of the country for inspiration.
“I m a fan of regional barbecue. Kansas City has their style. North Carolina has two or three different styles to them. Texas has a style,” Beem said. “I tried to combine all of those different flavors into one bottle” his Knotwater s original.
