Cleveland woman waives preliminary hearing for felony drug charges

The case against a Cleveland woman facing multiple drug-related felony charges was bound over to the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court after she waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
Samantha C. Paizs, 35, faces single counts of aggravated possession of drugs and possession of heroin, second-degree felonies, and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony, filed March 25 in the Cambridge Municipal Court.
She remains incarcerated in the Guernsey County Jail on a $100,000 bond with no 10% allowed.
Paizs suffered an apparent overdose during a traffic stop initiated by a State Highway Patrol trooper on Interstate 77. She was treated at Southeastern Med and released prior to being taken to jail.

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio A Buffalo man has been found guilty of sex crimes involving children after a seven day jury trial in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court.
52-year-old Ronald Wolters was convicted of three counts of Rape and eight counts of Gross Sexual Imposition on Wednesday. The victim of each count was a minor child under the age of 10. A sentencing hearing for Wolters, presided by Judge Daniel G. Padden, will take place on Wednesday, April 7th.

More than 15 months after a Guernsey County grand jury indicted him on a felony drug possession charge, a Cambridge resident was arrested Tuesday by city police officers conducting an unrelated narcotics investigation.
Ryan K. Lauer, 39, was arrested on a capias issued by the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court after grand jurors indicted him on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.
He remained incarcerated in the Guernsey County Jail following his arrest.
Lauer is also facing potential felony drug charges for suspected narcotics officers reportedly recovered from a residence at the Berwick apartment building on Wheeling Avenue in downtown Cambridge.
Jacob Harper charged with murder in connection to the death of Newark man

Guernsey County Common Pleas Court Judge Daniel G. Padden has designated Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center as a courthouse for a murder trial scheduled to begin later this month.
Jacob Russell Harper, 26, Newcomerstown, faces one count each of aggravated murder with a three-year firearm specification; murder with a three-year firearm specification; and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony.
The five-day trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on April 19. The trial will begin with voir dire at 8:30 a.m.
Harper was indicted by a Guernsey County grand jury on Oct. 8, 2020, for his alleged crimes less than two months earlier on Aug. 23.
