Co-defendant serving 7 to 9 years for felonious assault The Daily Jeffersonian A Girard woman who once faced an attempted murder charge for a shooting last May on Lakeside Drive in Cambridge, was recently sentenced to 10 months in prison as the result of a negotiated plea agreement that led to a conviction for obstructing justice. Rebecca L. Montgomery, 32, was given credit for time served in the Guernsey County Jail following her arrest on May 2, 2020. The balance of the prison sentence was then suspended by the court in favor of Community Control Sanctions. Montgomery was convicted of the fifth-degree felony on Nov. 6, 2020, after pleading guilty to a bill of information filed with the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court eight days earlier.

These are the situations that don’t result in an officer-involved shooting although they could have easily ended with shots being fired. They are the successful outcomes where law enforcement and those they are called to assist or investigate live to tell their story. The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office had a role in two recent armed stand-offs that could have resulted in an officer-related shooting, but instead ended with two men being taken into custody.

Late night fire destroys barn on Leatherwood Road and its contents

The Daily Jeffersonian SALESVILLE A barn on Leatherwood Road in eastern Guernsey County and its contents were destroyed by fire late Thursday night. A 911 caller to the Guernsey County Sheriff s Office at 10:51 p.m. reported the structure was gully engulfed. At 11:29 p.m., a firefighter at the scene reported a catastrophic collapse of the barn, trapping fire hoses being used by firefighters. The firefighter also reported gas tanks inside the structure were popping. The barn owner, identified as 67-year-old Anthony J. Joe Cosgrave, told a sheriff s deputy he was in the barn approximately 10 minutes before a passerby alerted him to the fire.
