The data suggests more people have struggled with substance abuse during the pandemic. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — 2020 was a difficult year for many people but it proved especially hard for recovering addicts. In Kern County, drug overdoses took a massive jump. Overall the United States saw a 28 percent increase in drug overdoses during the pandemic. Data collected shows an increase from mid-2019 to mid-2020 and accounts for parts of that year where people were most isolated due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Jango died after he accompanied Bakersfield police officers in pursuit of an unnamed male suspect in a reported stolen vehicle on Highway 58 who did not stop for officers and eventually fled the vehicle on foot to a residence on Feliz Drive. When located, the suspect fired a weapon.

(KERO) — The Kern County Coroner s Office identified 44-yer-old Clay Edward McFall as the man shot and killed in Oildale in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to the coroner s report, McFall just after 4 a.m. Saturday after being shot in the 300 block of Sycamore Drive. The Kern County Sheriff s Office is investigating the homicide. One neighbor told 23ABC news they heard about three gunshots that morning right around 4 am. Cru Woodruff-Hickman was the one who discovered the body. He said he was heading to his sister s house in the area and saw the body right as he was pulling up. He told 23ABC he called police immediately and tried to resuscitate the victim with chest compressions.
