After nearly a year of teetering on a tightrope â just one misstep away from falling into anxious despair â I crashed.Â
There was a lot of sobbing, hyperventilating and burning pain shooting up and down my arms and legs. It was the first time my anxiety had ever gotten this bad. I wasnât able to speak or move, and the world around me was such a dark blur I forgot where I was.Â
It was so hard in the moment, with my anxiety tearing me apart from the inside, to remember I wasnât the only one struggling. But just the next day a viral tweet popped up on my Twitter from the user @melhuman: âSo just to confirm, this is the worst anyoneâs felt since the start of the pandemic, right? Like itâs not just me?â
Rianna Bowers, a freshman at UM, tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 2. Â
She thought it was just a cold. So she went to Curry Health Center and ended up receiving a positive COVID-19 test. She wasnât a close contact, though, so when it came back positive, Curry tested her again. The second test came back positive as well.Â
Bowers was sent back to her dorm room and told to pack what she would need and wait for a call from the University. Within an hour, UM dropped off a car for her to transport her things to Aber Hall, which was then being used as COVID-19 housing.Â
