Govt. for setting up more rural theatres, says Minister
With advanced screening technologies and improved facilities, the renovated Kairali-Sree theatre complex of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation was thrown open to film buffs in Kozhikode on Thursday. Minister for Cultural Affairs A.K. Balan inaugurated the renovated theatre complex through videoconferencing.
The renovation work was completed at a cost of ₹7 crore. Three dimension screens with 4K picture clarity and Dolby Atmos sound system, spacious lobby, parking slots with pre-booking facilities, feeding room for mothers, VIP lounge, art gallery and book stall are among the new facilities. Screening of movies would begin soon without any revision of the existing ticket fare.
For the first time in 21 years, Gainesville residents will be asked this holiday weekend to be invader raiders in their own backyards and neighborhoods instead of nature parks.
The annual Great Invader Raider Rally, typically held on a Saturday in January, will be held Friday through Monday in a socially distanced format because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department has organized many volunteers every year since 2000 to remove invasive plants from local parks and natural areas.
The event’s organizers said the focus this year is on reducing the amount of plants that jump from the community into nature parks.

Pingtung s forest library closed for repair 6 months after reopening

Taipei, Feb. 5 (CNA) The Pingtung County Library, which was reopened in August last year, was closed from Thursday for 12 days for general maintenance after becoming a popular attraction dubbed Taiwan s first forest library.
The five-story library, located in the old camphor tree-shrouded Qianxi Park in Pingtung City, has attracted more than 470,000 visitors since it was reopened on Aug. 28 after two years of renovation and extension, according to the county s Cultural Affairs Department.
The refurbished library has boosted the number of readers, with 5,013 people applying for library cards in the four months since the reopening, leaving several shelves empty during the first week of September.
