The first group of border workers in Wellington received
their vaccinations today as the response to the COVID-19
pandemic ramps up.
Among the Wellington border
workers at the Grand Mercure Hotel who were vaccinated today
was Group Captain Peter Johnson, who visits managed
isolation and quarantine facilities around the country in
his capacity as general manager of all 32 of New Zealand’s
MIQ operations.

the Royal New Zealand Air Force says for him, the decision
to be vaccinated was an easy one.

Surf Lifeguards are encouraging Kiwis to familiarise
themselves with “beach basics” before heading to the
coast this long weekend.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand
(SLSNZ) Chief Executive and Titahi Bay Surf Lifeguard, Paul
Dalton, says that while Surf Lifeguards are trained to
conduct rescues, prevention is the most important tool when
it comes to saving lives.
“There are some key things
that all of us should keep in mind when we visit the beach,
even if it’s your favourite local spot,” says
Dalton.

An Auckland faith-based organisation is threatening its
homecare support workers with a lockout, after they have
taken strike and picket action to win better working
conditions.
Since mid-2019, E tū Lifewise members
have been asking for increased sick and bereavement leave to
be incorporated into a first-time collective agreement,
along with more guaranteed hours so they aren’t left
struggling to pay their bills from week to week.
Their
employer, Lifewise, which is part of the Methodist Mission,
agreed to add additional leave, plus a number of other
improved provisions, into a proposed collective agreement
but then reneged on their promises.
