CALAVERAS COUNTY, Calif. More details have been released regarding a domestic dispute, hostage situation and deadly shooting that happened in Calaveras County last week.
Sergeant Greg Stark with the Calaveras County Sheriff s Office said in a press release on Monday, May 10 that the incident began just after 10:30 p.m. on May 6. Multiple people called for help, telling dispatch that a man had pointed a gun at a woman at the Sierra Inn Motel in San Andreas.
Suspect Killed In San Andreas Hostage Situation Identified, Said To Have Lengthy Criminal History

SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) – The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect accused of taking a hostage and shooting a deputy before being killed by law enforcement in San Andreas last week.
Mark Aitulagi Lavea, 47, of Modesto, was identified as the hostage-taker and had a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1989, authorities said. That history reportedly includes numerous felony and misdemeanor arrests and convictions for crimes including assaults, burglaries, weapons charges, child cruelty, domestic violence, drug-related charges and elder abuse.
A domestic violence suspect was killed Thursday night during an exchange of gunfire with Calaveras County law enforcement after authorities say he shot a deputy during an ambush and held a victim hostage at gunpoint.
Both the deputy and hostage, who was also struck by gunfire, remained hospitalized Friday morning but are expected to survive, according to a statement from the Calaveras County Sheriff s Office.
Law enforcement officials say the sheriff s dispatch center received a 911 call just after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday regarding an argument between a male and female at the Sierra Inn Motel. The reporting party stated a male pointed a firearm at the female victim s head, sheriff s officials said.

SAN ANDREAS (CBS13) A hostage situation in San Andreas ended with a deputy and a hostage shot and the suspect being killed, authorities say.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office says the incident started a little after 10:30 p.m. Thursday after dispatchers got a call about an argument between a man and a woman at the Sierra Inn Motel in San Andreas.
“I heard screaming from a woman who was pretty much begging for her life,” said Tamara Zumkeller, who described the start of what would later become a deadly night in San Andreas.
