In response to the current statewide surge in coronavirus cases, the California Department of Motor Vehicles and the Sacramento Superior Court are extending temporary suspensions of service.
The DMV will not conduct behind-the-wheel driving tests until at least January fourth, a week longer than originally planned. While the Sacramento courts will continue their services January 18th. The decisions come as Governor Gavin Newsom calls for additional stay at home orders.
Firefighters extinguished a 5.9-acre blaze near State Route 14 in Santa Clarita early Tuesday morning.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel received reports of smoke seen from the hillside near the 14 freeway and Via Princessa around 4 a.m., according to Fire Department spokesman Franklin Lopez.
“The call came in as smoke on a hillside and we had a working fire by 4:22 a.m.,” he said.
Crews, which remained on the scene around 9 a.m. to clear the area, declared forward progress of the fire had stopped just after 5:30 a.m. with a final size of 5.9 acres.
No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is extending its temporary halt to behind-the-wheel driving tests until Jan. 4.
Officials previously announced the suspension lasted through Dec. 28.
The DMV is making this decision based on the governor s stay-at-home order and for the health and safety of its customers.
Anyone with a scheduled drivers test will be notified and rescheduled to another date.
In-person vehicle testing is required for first-time driver s license holders and commercial license applicants.
New safety measures in place for behind-the-wheel tests include required face coverings, temperature checks, cracked windows for increased air circulation and seat covers.
