The Board of Supervisors unanimously awarded the contract to build two Community Resilience Centers, one in Groveland and one in Tuolumne, to Sonora based Robert E. Boyer Construction Inc. Deputy County Administrator Maureen Frank reported to the board that the nine companies who qualified to bid all bid prices within about one million dollars of each other. Boyer Construction had the lowest bid at $16,731,476. Frank said, “It is exciting because Boyer has done projects for the county before, we have had a great relationship with them, and he is local.” The first project Frank worked with Boyer on was the Groveland Ambulance Station.

Sacramento, CA – A Mother Lode native out of Calaveras County has switched from “acting” to the state’s new Deputy Director of Codes and Standards at the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
A Mokelumne Hill resident, 55-year-old Kyle A. Krause has been the acting deputy director since 2020. On Wednesday, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed him to take over the position permanently.
Krause served in several government positions before that dating back to 2010. Those include Assistant Deputy Director of Codes and Standards and State Housing Law Program Manager of Codes and Standards. He was appointed to that

Los Angeles County is offering tax exceptions to eligible property-owners through the countywide Safe, Clean Water Program. Eligible seniors can apply for an exemption from the special parcel tax by submitting a filled-out tax exemption form by mail no later than May 1, 2021.
In order to receive a tax waiver, applicants must meet the following requirements: – Be 62 years of age or older – Own and live at the residential parcel listed on the application form – Be low-income as determined annually by the California Department of Housing and Community Development

Senator Portantino Affordable Housing Bill Passes Senate Housing Committee
Senate Bill 15, a measure authored Senator Anthony J. Portantino (D – La Canada) which gives incentives to cities that convert abandoned retail sites into affordable and workforce housing, passed the Senate Housing Committee today.
“Lack of affordable housing is a major issue for current and potential employers in California counties and negatively impacts our economy,” stated Senator Portantino. “Housing is fundamental to the welfare of business and the workforce population. Using abandoned retail sites for new affordable housing is an achievable and necessary goal that California must pursue.”
