I am anxious about the next time I get stopped by a police officer because I don t know what compliance means when you re Black in Minnesota.
Do I keep my hands on the steering wheel? Do I FaceTime loved ones so they can see everything as it unfolds? Am I allowed to reach into my pocket and grab my license? Should I? People of color, especially Black people, are already viewed by law enforcement as out of compliance, said Karen S. Glover, a sociology professor at California State University-San Marcos and the author of Racial Profiling: Research, Racism, and Resistance. That s where racial profiling comes from.

SAN MARCOS, CA With universities reopening for on-campus learning as more people in the United States get vaccinated against COVID-19, students may be wondering how safe their college might be as they return to the classroom.
A report from Your Local Security, a security systems retailer, aims to shed some light on that issue and ranked the safest colleges in America. Using pre-pandemic crime data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations and information from the U.S. Department of Education, the company found that California State University San Marcos and the University of California, Irvine, were the safest campuses in California.
