LOS ANGELES (AP) â The âprime suspectâ was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murder in the 25-year-old disappearance of California college student Kristin Smart.
Paul Flores, 44, who was the last person seen with Smart on the California Polytechnic State University campus in San Luis Obispo before she vanished in 1996, was taken into custody in the Los Angeles area. His father, Ruben Flores, 80, was arrested as an accessory at his Arroyo Grande home, where sheriffâs investigators conducted their latest search for evidence.

Kristin Smart case: Paul Flores arrested in the Cal Poly students’ 1996 disappearance
Nearly twenty-five years after Kristin Smart disappeared after a college party near California Polytechnic State University s campus, authorities Tuesday arrested her former classmate, Paul Flores, on suspicion of murder. Flores was the last person to see her alive in 1996 before she vanished.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said that Flores, 44, was taken into custody in the Los Angeles area Tuesday morning. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail just after noon Tuesday on a single charge of murder with no bail. His father, Ruben Flores, 80, was arrested on suspicion of accessory after a felony. His bail was set at $250,000.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Police have arrested a longtime suspect and his father in connection with the murder of Kristin Smart, a 19-year-old college freshman who went missing from her California university 25 years ago, local media reported.
Smart was last seen walking to her dormitory on the campus of California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, 150 miles (240 km) northwest of Los Angeles, in 1996 after attending an off-campus party.
Paul Flores, a fellow student at Cal Poly SLO in 1996 and long a prime suspect in the unsolved case, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning in the Los Angeles suburb of San Pedro. He is now 43.
