Santa Barbara County remained in the orange tier of the state’s tiered COVID-19 reopening framework on Tuesday despite the Public Health Department’s expectations of meeting the yellow tier criteria for the first week.
The county was just shy of meeting the yellow tier case rate criteria as it reported an adjusted case rate of two daily new cases per 100,000 people on Tuesday, but that number needed to fall below two in order to qualify for the yellow tier.
The county needs to meet the yellow tier criteria for two consecutive weeks before officially moving up. So, if the county qualifies for the yellow tier during next week’s tier assessment, it could potentially advance on June 8 just one week before the entire tier system is eliminated.
