Early reopening for Avoncroft Museum

Avoncroft Museum, Bromsgrove. AVONCROFT Museum in Bromsgrove will be reopening to the public sooner than expected to mark the early May bank holiday weekend. The museum grounds will be open from May 1 every weekend 10am to 5pm and tickets must be purchased in advance. Avoncroft’s buildings will be closed but staff are hoping the 19 acres of outdoor space will entice visitors to come and explore. Staff and trustees of the museum have decided to mark May Day bank holiday by reopening the museum grounds to the public. Director of Avoncroft Museum, Zoe Willems, said: “We have a very small staff team at the moment, and a positive army of volunteers and supporters who are helping us to get ready to open to the public. We think it’s more important to be open than to be perfect, so we hope visitors will come and enjoy the 19 acres of open space and understand that we are still a work in progress in some areas. Princess Theatre, Burnham on Sea. - Credit: Archant A town theatre will reveal its reopening plans next week after securing vital Government funding.  The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre, in Burnham, is one of more than 2,500 organisations to benefit from the latest round of grants from Arts Council England’s Culture Recovery Fund.   The £1.57billion fund aims to support cultural organisations in England financially, such as theatres, museums, and music venues, as they prepare to reopen.  In the second round of allocations, the Princess Theatre, in Princess Street, has received £27,356 in a huge funding boost to its facilities.  A Princess Theatre spokesman said: “We are delighted to announce we will continue to be Here For Culture, as we are one of more than 2,700 recipients to benefit from the latest round of awards from the £1.57billion Culture Recovery Fund. 

Museum in Bromsgrove awarded COVID grant

Avoncroft Museum has been granted £92,000 in the second round of the Government and Arts Council England’s Culture Recovery Fund. The investment will allow the museum to pay for some urgent repairs and open its doors to the public in the early summer. The attraction, which opened in 1967, usually relies on public admissions and donations to cover conservation and staff costs, along with profits from the tearoom and shop. Michael Woolley, chair of Trustees at Avoncroft Museum, said: “After a very difficult twelve months because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is very exciting news that the museum has been awarded a further grant of £92, 000 from the Culture Recovery Fund. This will make a major contribution towards being able to re-open the museum safely when Government restrictions allow and to undertake some of the repairs to the buildings necessitated b
