Turning 98 in October, Walt Disney Animation Studios has recently welcomed its first Southeast Asian heroine, Raya. Also the first original animated tale created by Disney in five years, Raya and the Last Dragon has opened across Chinese theaters on March 5, in both the original English language and the Mandarin voice-over version for which A-list actress Zhao Liying has lent her vocal cords to the protagonist.

However, it was recently chosen from the more than 400 submitted films to air tonight at 10 p.m. on Fox Soul’s Screening Room. A Central State University grad and Dayton native will have his first written and directed film air on Fox Soul streaming network. Jamaal Scott’s powerful short film, that he also acts in, titled “KINGS” was released in 2018 and made its rounds in the festival circuit. It was recently chosen from the more than 400 submitted films to air Thursday March 11, at 10 p.m. on Fox Soul’s Screening Room. The film is available to watch in the Live screen on foxsoul.tv, and is also available on YouTube.

SELMA — There has been a huge surge in the number of independently-published authors around the world in recent years.  Many come from right here in the San Joaquin Valley.  With that said, it’s time to get to know one Valley-based author. Meet James Fox, a screenwriter and filmmaker-turned-science fiction author.  This native of Selma and 1997 graduate from Selma High School recently published his first book —  “The Sol Saga, Book 1:  Revolution” on Jan. 5, 2021, a story about humanity’s expansion into our own solar system. Fox has been working in creative fields since his time in college at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
