With directors of the prestigious New Hollywood filmmaking movement of the 60s and 70s still alive and creating as good of work as ever, alongside modern and older auteurs and up-and-comers around the world carving their own distinct paths in the film industry, there is enough groundwork laid out between 2000 and 2020 to distinguish this century s own classic canon.

Taking place on Feb. 24, 1964, the film tells a fictional story about boxer Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, musician Sam Cooke, football player Jim Brown and civil rights activist Malcolm X, played by Eli Goree, Leslie Odom Jr., Aldis Hodge and Kingsley Ben-Adir respectively. After Ali wins a monumental fight, the four of them meet in a hotel room where they discuss their experiences and the state of being black in America.

After overcoming the seemingly misleading title, Hopkins only got minimally invested in the script before becoming overwhelmed with its quality, ultimately leading towards a meeting with director Jonathan Demme before taking on the role. Hopkins would go on to earn the Academy Award for Best Actor for the part.

Portuguese American actor Tom Hanks will host a 90-minute “Celebrating America” primetime television special on January 20, for the inauguration of Joe Biden as President and Kamala Harris as Vice-President of the United States. The ceremony will be held on the West Front of the US Capitol.
Tom Hanks is just one of the few Portuguese Americans invited for the inaugural ceremony. Other Portuguese Americans present include the five re-elected politicians who served previous administrations. They are Jim Costa; Devin Nunes, David Valadão, Lori Loureiro Trahan, and Patrick Toomey.
Except for Lori Loureiro Trahan, who is a Democrat congresswoman of Massachusetts, and congressman Jim Costa a Democrat of California, the other legislators of Portuguese descent are all Republicans who served under the Trump Administration not without consequence.
