In this mutually-beneficial program, students will work hands-on with health plan staff to support the region s most vulnerable residents through the development of public health program curricula, analytical data support and more.   In this program, student interns will learn the correlation between practical problems and public health issues, make connections between health services and social determinants of health, and will have the chance to work with IEHP Team Members at all levels to understand the dynamic flow involved in providing health care to more than 1.4 million Members. When her name was read aloud by the dean of students, Hughes walked past rows of vacant seats and stepped up to the stage. She pulled down her face mask to unveil a smile and posed for a photo. The moment – signaling the end of Hughes’ college career at USM – was over as quickly as it began. A friend and fellow nursing student, Alexa Goodrich, captured it in a cellphone video from the back of the auditorium as a handful of staff in the sparsely populated lecture hall erupted in cheers.
