ALBION, MI – Albion College returned a 500-year-old Mayan urn to the government of Mexico in a repatriation ceremony on April 13.
The urn, created by the Lacandon Maya in the Chiapas region in 1525, was donated to the college in 2003 as part of a collection of papers, photographs and artifacts from alumnus Marvin Vann, class of 1940, according to a college news release. Vann spent years in Mexico on a personal mission to study communities of indigenous people in remote areas, according to the release.
