The board examinations for classes 10 and 12 will be held in June one after another, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said on Wednesday. The class 10 (Madhyamik) exams will be held first and the class 12 (Ucchya Madhyamik) examinations after that, he said. The exams are usually held between February and March every year. We have accepted the recommendations of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Council of Higher Education Education on holding the exams on later dates in view of the pandemic situation, Chatterjee said. If the situation changes, the board and council will take decisions accordingly, he added.

In a big push for education, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved ₹59,000 crore Post Matric Scholarship for more than four crore Scheduled Caste (SC) in the next five years. The cabinet approved a total investment of ₹59,048 crore. The central government will spend 60% of the programme which is estimated at ₹35,534. The rest wll be provided by the state government. This replaces the existing committed liability system and brings greater involvement of the Central Govt in this crucial scheme, the Union Cabinet said in a statement.
