ITHACA, NY The Ithaca Fire Department responded to a fire at Titus Towers #1 on South Plain Street around 9:45 p.m. on May 7. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from an apartment. Inside they found a fire burning in the room and a person inside. The sprinkler system had activated. The occupant was taken outside and treated by EMS.
The fire was completely extinguished, and upon searching the apartment and adjacent apartments were checked. Another occupant was found in a smoke-filled apartment next door. That person was removed and checked by Bangs Ambulance paramedics. Neither person was injured.
There was fire and smoke damage in the apartment as well as water damage from the sprinkler. The Ithaca Housing Authority was working on clean up and accommodations for those involved. The Cayuga Heights FD stood by in their station to cover other IFD calls.Â
ITHACA, NY The body of a 19-year-old man was found in the area of Ezraâs Tunnel in the Ithaca Falls Natural Area at 10:48 a.m. on May 8. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time, as additional notifications are still being made.Â
The Ithaca Police Department is investigating the incident, but said it does not appear to be a result of a criminal act.Â
IPD was assisted at the scene by the Ithaca Fire Department, the Tompkins County Medical Examinerâs Office, Bangs Ambulance as well as Cornell University Police. Â
Anyone who may have been in the area of N. Willard Way and Ezraâs Tunnel between the hours of 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. on May 8 is asked to contact the IPD Investigations Division through any of the following means: Â
Tompkins County authorities have identified an Elmira man as the person killed early Saturday morning in a high-speed crash in the Town of Lansing that reportedly involved gunfire between two vehicles in the lead up to the accident.
Meanwhile, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has charged a 26-year-old Lansing man with attempted murder in connection with the crash, which also injured four.
According to the sheriff’s department, Sha-Heem Harris, 21, a passenger in a black, 2006 Hyundai Sonata, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:50 a.m. accident on Auburn Road. The official cause of death is pending an upcoming autopsy, investigators said.

The Ithaca Police Department says they are still following leads as part of an investigation into a shooting and motor vehicle crash that happened at the intersection of Cascadilla and Fifth streets.
It happened on Tuesday around 8:43 a.m.
They released a video to possibly assist the public with providing viable leads.

Police say that around 8:45 a.m. patrol and investigators responded to the area of Cascadilla and Fifth streets, as well as N. Meadow St. for a report of gunfire involving a vehicle in the city of Ithaca.
