County officials reminding homeowners, renters and businesses to review flood insurance needs

Special to the Daily The change to daylight saving time is also a good time for Eagle County homeowners, renters and businesses to think about flood insurance. The Eagle County Office of Emergency Management and Eagle River Fire Protection District encourage everyone to review their insurance needs before snow melt and spring rains bring the potential for flooding. Spring runoff in Eagle County typically peaks between mid-May and mid-June; however, flood conditions can occur at any time with sustained warm temperatures. Floods can happen anytime, anywhere and without warning. What most people don’t know is that the damage from a flood is not covered under a standard homeowners’ insurance policy. A standard policy also does not cover mud flows; which are rivers of liquid and flowing mud. Eagle River Fire Protection District responds to structure fire in unoccupied home

Eagle River Fire Protection District/Special to the Daily At about 1 p.m. on Thursday, Eagle River Fire Protection District crews were dispatched to a report of smoke from a structure in a large single family residence on Spring Creek Place in the Cordillera Valley Club area of Edwards. Due to the complexity of the fire’s location, it took several hours of thermal heat tracing and overhaul operations before crews were confident in calling the fire out Thursday afternoon.The property was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. The cause is still under investigation. A person passing by reported smoke but no flames coming from the eaves of the structure, according to the ERFPD. Firefighters from Engine 12 reported seeing smoke from U.S. Highway 6 as they responded, and once on scene, they immediately accessed the roof to begin an offensive attack near a chimney. Avon s Wildridge area will see slash pile burning Jan 27, 28

Special to the Daily The Eagle Valley Wildand Team, consisting of members from Greater Eagle Fire Protection District and Eagle River Fire Protection District, in cooperation with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, United States Forest Service, Eagle County and the Town of Avon will be burning slash piles in the Wildridge Neighborhood. Burning operations will occur as weather and snow conditions permit, and are tentatively scheduled for Jan. 27 and 28, 2021. Due to the number of piles, burning operations could take several days. Burning will only be conducted under specific guidelines established by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, including having adequate snow cover on the ground and acceptable weather forecasts that meet guidelines for safe and effective burning and adequate smoke dispersal.
