FATA students call off protest demonstration

Daily Times April 5, 2021 Students of Islamia University Bahawalpur FATA have called off their 16-day sit-in outside Governor’s House Lahore after successful negotiation with Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi. Meanwhile, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar announced scholarships for 1000 students annually including 200 girls from FATA, and also announced to set up Punjab University sub-campus in FATA and Government College University, Lahore sub-campus in Gilgit. According to details, students of Islamia University Bahawalpur of FATA held talks with Governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar at Governor’s House Lahore on Sunday regarding their demands. Deputy Chairman Senate Mirza Muhammad Afridi, MPA from FATA Naseer Ahmed were also present on the occasion. President seeks Ulema’s role in implementing COVID-19 SOPs during Ramazan April 5, 2021 ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi has urged the Ulema and Mashaikh to play their leading role in implementing COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the Holy Month of Ramazan in Mosques and Imam Bargahs. While chairing a virtual meeting on the observance of COVID-19 SOPs during the upcoming Holy Month of Ramzan at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Monday, the president advised the Ulema to get themselves vaccinated and act as role models in following all SOPs to contain the spread of the virus amidst the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
