Elected officials in the Hudson Valley condemned the chaos that reigned supreme this week as Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol building to contest the results of November s election.
Following the riots in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, some of the Hudson Valley’s top officials spoke out against the riots, during which four people died and dozens were taken into custody by police.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said that there’s always going to be disagreements and infighting in politics, and protesters have the right to peacefully march, but noted that violence should have never come into play.

As Americans watched violence and chaos consume the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, New Yorkers denounced the mayhem and called for a peaceful transition of power to Joe Biden.
With supporters of President Donald Trump storming the Capitol to stop Biden s confirmation as our next president with four people dying and dozens arrested Hudson Valley residents sounded off on the scene that shocked a nation and struck a nerve at home.
“What I saw today is disrespect for democracy, Westchester County Executive George Latimer told The Journal News/lohud on Wednesday. “That is something that we just frankly haven’t seen in this country before and I think it speaks poorly of the individuals involved and it speaks poorly of those who incite them.

longer than usual.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer says the pandemic is causing
a shortage in bus drivers and missed trips. They have to go through the
same quarantine and isolation policies as any of us do.
Those policies require a
two-week quarantine, keeping drivers off the streets. It s so bad. People complain
about it and they have to do something about it, says bus passenger Michael Agumobi-obe.

Latimer demands FAA test incoming international passengers at county airport for new strain of COVID-19

Westchester County Executive George Latimer is calling on the FAA to put a testing protocol in place to screen international passengers due to the outbreak of a new strain of the coronavirus.
Although there are no direct international flights in Westchester County Airport, Latimer tells News 12, International flights might go into another American city or Canadian city and then an individual will transfer from there to a flight that would take them into Westchester.”
Right now, the airport operates flights from JFK as well as parts of Florida, North Carolina, and Indiana.
