Three other people died in nursing homes and county officials had no further information about them. The number of Covid-19 patients in local hospitals reached a new high of 333 today. Of those, 57 are in intensive care. One bright note: New daily cases today fell to 227, the lowest one-day count since Dec. 1. That’s 77 fewer new cases than Monday, a 25% drop.

Shoppingtown Mall Could Be Potential COVID-19 Testing & Vaccination Site

Those who died overnight included a man in his 60s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 80s. Three other patients died in nursing homes, McMahon said. County health officials confirmed 304 new cases of coronavirus since Sunday. The county’s positive test rate, averaged over the past seven days, is 6.1%, according to the state health department. That’s down slightly compared with previous week, when it ranged as high as 7%.

Onondaga County eyes ShoppingTown Mall as site for coronavirus testing and vaccination Updated Dec 20, 2020; Posted Dec 20, 2020 Facebook Share Syracuse, N.Y. – The vacant ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt may be used as a coronavirus testing and vaccination site. “We will be able to use this Mall to Fight the Virus for Vaccinations and Testing,” Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said on Twitter Sunday. McMahon said he toured the mall this week after the U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved a deal to transfer ownership of the mall to the county. Onondaga County used the nearly $10 million tax debt to try to seize the mall in 2019, but ShoppingTown instead filed for bankruptcy to stave off the move. The county and Moonbeam reached a deal to transfer ownership to the county’s industrial development agency.
