More than $20 million in rent relief will begin reaching landlords this week in Onondaga County, County Executive Ryan McMahon announced Tuesday. The checks will be the first of thousands that will help landlords and tenants who lost income due to the coronavirus pandemic. More than 3,600 landlords in Onondaga County applied for the latest round of rent relief funding, asking for at least $13 million in back rent from a $24.5 million fund provided through the American Rescue Plan.

Nearly 10 million New Yorkers, or 50% of all state residents, have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, and 8.3 million people, or nearly 42% of all state residents, have completed their two-dose Pfizer or Moderna vaccine series or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office said Sunday.

Capital Correspondent Karen Dewitt has the latest on new mask guidance in New York State. He added that having rules in line with the CDC is important to build credibility with the public. He plans to modify the current mask policy at the county building in accordance with the new rules. “Next, or Wednesday, when it starts, when I get on the elevator I will no longer wear this nice looking mask,” said McMahon. “Whether I change my mind if I go into a different type of setting, I reserve the right to always pivot and put a mask on if I feel uncomfortable.”
