Fewer hospitalizations could help the County move in right direction of re-opening - News 11 s Arlette Yousif reports
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County Public Health Department held its COVID-19 update Thursday along with Pioneers Memorial Health District (PMHD) and El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC). There has been a slight uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the Valley. However, the number of COVID-19 patients is still trending down.
Even with a minor setback, Imperial County could avoid stepping back into the red or more restrictive tier if numbers continue to improve.
–Residents of San Luis Obispo County who want to be vaccinated against COVID-19 at one of the county’s three mass vaccination clinics can now make their COVID-19 vaccination appointments on the state’s My Turn website.
“Vaccinating as many people as we can as quickly as we can is one of the best ways to end this pandemic,” said County Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “Safe, free, and effective COVID-19 vaccines are now available to anyone age 16 and up.”
The county has closed its own vaccine registry at recoverslo.org and anyone still in the registry received the opportunity today to make a first-dose appointment for next week. All other residents seeking a COVID-19 vaccine appointment through the County Public Health Department can check myturn.ca.gov or call (833) 422-4255.
The W-L investigation started after four students tested positive between March 23-31.
“Based on guidance from the [Arlington County Public Health Department], we quarantined all students and staff who were in close contact with any of the individuals who tested positive,” said a letter to families from Zachary Pope, APS’s director of emergency management, and Principal Tony Hall. “All health and safety protocols were being followed at school, which allowed W-L staff to respond quickly with ACPHD to prevent further transmission,” they said.
Arlington County Public Health Department spokeswoman Jessica Baxter confirmed that investigations were underway at two schools, but declined to name them.
