(KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County Public Health Department announced Tuesday the Valley is set to move into the orange tier as soon as April 7. The move will allow for larger indoor gatherings, and will let local businesses welcome even more customers into their stores. • Bars (where no meal is served): Open outdoors with modifications. • Family entertainment centers: Open indoors with modifications. Max capacity 25% or 50% if guests are tested or show proof of full vaccination. • Fitness centers and gyms: Open indoors with 25% max occupancy; indoor pools open at 25% occupancy.

Battle Creek And Kalamazoo Pinpointed As Virus Hotspots Battle Creek and Kalamazoo are among more than a handful of Michigan metropolitan areas that are the nation’s top hotpots for the COVID-19 virus. That s the assessment from the New York Times. A weekend report in the Times indicates Battle Creek is ranked 8th on its nationwide list of new virus cases reported, balanced against the metro area population. New York City, for example, is ranked 7th. The Kalamazoo – Portage metro area is ranked not far behind at 11th. Number one on that list – Jackson – Michigan. And in descending order, 6 more Michigan metro areas listed as those experiencing the highest rate of new cases based on population. Detroit – Flint – Monroe – Lansing – and, Owosso.

Rice County Following State COVID Trend The Rice County Public Health Department COVID numbers are following the state trend of moving upward by the largest margin since late January. According to the Rice County Health Department website the weekly case increase March 21 through March 27 was 123.  The highest increase since it was 130 the week of January 24-30. The two week case rate which schools look at to determine their mode of operation is up to 33.60 March 14-27. The weekly peak in COVID cases in Rice County occurred November 8-14, 2020 when there were 785 newly reported cases. Rice County COVID-19 deaths total 98 with age range of 24 to 104, average age 80.
