Man charged in hit-and-run that killed pregnant woman, unborn child

SOUTHGATE, MI A 31-year-old Wyandotte man has been charged in the deaths of a pregnant 35-year-old Southgate woman and her unborn child. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced the charges Tuesday against Raymond Alkewich, who was arraigned in 28th District Court on a charge of failure to stop at a scene of an accident causing death.
It is alleged that on the night of March 13, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Southgate police were called for a hit-and-run accident near Fort Street and Superior. When police and medics arrived they began working on helping the victim, however a short time after getting to the scene police were informed the woman and her baby had died.
