Man, 22, denied bond in fatal shooting on 7 Mile Detroit  A 22-year-old man faces eight felony charges, including first-degree murder, in a Christmas-week double shooting in Detroit. Police say he confronted the pair as they were out to sell a pair of skates. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Keyon Wilson-Ollis with eight felonies: first-degree premeditated murder, four counts of felony firearm, two counts of assault with intent to murder, and one count of fleeing and eluding police, fourth-degree. Detroit police say on Wednesday at about 5:30 p.m. the suspect allegedly fatally shot a 37-year-old man and shot a 41-year-old woman and a 17-year-old male at a gas station on Seven Mile and Woodward.

Man, 31, charged in October slaying in Detroit s west side Detroit  A 31-year-old man has been arrested, charged and denied bond in the Oct. 4 slaying of a 20-year-old man during an argument on Detroit s west side. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Terry with first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of felony firearm, and one count of weapons possession as a felon.  About 6 p.m. Oct. 4, two men, 20 and 30, argued on the 9600 block of St. Mary s. That s north of West Chicago and east of the Southfield Freeway.  At the time, police described the suspect, later identified as Terry, as known.

Michigan sheriff Benny Napoleon dies after complications with COVID-19

Napoleon was appointed Wayne County Sheriff after the position became vacant in 2009. He was elected to remain in the position in 2012 and was re-elected every four years since, most recently in 2020. He spent most of his career at the Detroit Police Department, starting in 1975 and worked his way up to police chief, assuming the position in 1998. He retired from DPD in 2001 and became Wayne County assistant executive in 2004.  Napoleon ran for mayor in 2013, losing to the current mayor, Mike Duggan, by about 10 percentage points.  Napoleon, the son of a minister, was a Detroit Public Schools student, graduating from Cass Technical High School, later earning his bachelor s degree from Mercy College of Detroit and his doctorate from Michigan State University.

Napoleon died Thursday night at Henry Ford Hospital surrounded by family. He was placed on a ventilator in late November and a prayer vigil was held in front of the Wayne County Sherrif s Office with family and friends rallying around him.

Condolences have come from every area of the state for the lifelong Detroiter from officials after he lost a long battle with COVID-19 at just 65 years old.
