Covid counter: T&T suffers record 23 deaths in past 24 hours, MoH reveals 601 new cases
Trinidad and Tobago suffered a new record for deaths in a single day with 23 fatalities over the past 24 hours, which is two more than on Thursday 13 May 2021. There have been 317 deaths since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.
There was a new high mark in confirmed cases too as the Ministry of Health tallied 601 new infections from 5,985 tests on ‘samples taken between the period 13 May to 16 May’. It was the second day of testing samples between 13-16 May, as the ministry noted 944 tests and 294 positives from that period yesterday which suggests a total, so far, of 895 positives from 6,929 tests over those three days.

Nine deaths and 565 new cases; 30% of T&T’s Covid infections happened in last two weeks
The Ministry of Health confirmed nine deaths and 565 new cases of Covid-19 today, with the results based on 1,223 samples ‘taken during the period 10 May – 13 May 2021’.
The infections took Trinidad and Tobago’s number of active cases up to 5,214. There are 365 persons hospitalised at present while the County Medical Officer Health (CMOH) offices will quiz the 565 infected persons to determine whether any require lodging at a public health facility.

Another 21 deaths, 397 new cases, and an admission from the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) that it is struggling to cope with the demands for Covid-19 tests and healthcare, due to the current surge.
At present, Trinidad and Tobago has 4,814 active cases, while the 394 infections reported today tabulated, according to the Ministry of Health, from ‘samples taken during the period 9 May to 12 May came from 1,110 tests.

NCRHA CEO Davlin Thomas said his team ‘met in an emergency meeting last night after a record breaking wave of patients requiring Covid-19 testing and care engulfed the system’.
